Hey y’all!
I have another prayer request – this time for me.
Two days ago, 3/15/17, I was feeling great. We had all been very tired, and I had had a lot of joint pain and back pain, but it wasn’t that bad. I didn’t think too much of the pain – I thought I was having another growth spurt. But that late afternoon, as we were grabbing some cookies and donuts at Yum Yum, our friend’s place, I suddenly felt very strange.
You know those waves you feel when you’re catching the flu? Well, that’s what I was feeling. So my mom felt my forehead, and I had a fever. I was also very fatigued. And I had a horrible headache.
So we caught a ride home and I immediately went into my room and crashed. My mom gave me her special Vitamin C concoction, which is a delicious mix with this coconut water they have here (not at all like real coconut water – it doesn’t even taste like coconuts- but it tastes good and it’s healthy) and pure Vitamin C powder.
We thought it might be a bad lunch, so we waited it out to see if I would throw up and feel better. I did not do either of those things.
After several hours of staring at the wall, I went to sleep at 7, only to wake up at 9, 10, 12, and 4 in the night. Every time I got up in the night, I felt better and got less dizzy when I stood up. So when I woke up in the morning, I was exhausted.
I slept for most of the morning as well while my mom sent out text prayer requests to some locals and a few folks back in America that are on Messenger or Viber.
One of the locals she sent the message to said I may have Chikungunya virus, which is very similar to Zika and dengue. We began to do some research, and sure enough, my symptoms matched Chikungunya fever. But they weren’t too far away from dengue either. Zika, although not ruled out, wasn’t likely, as I had a sudden-onset high fever, which is a characteristic of both Chikungunya and dengue, but Zika is known for gradual, mild fever and a rash as predominant factors.
Yesterday afternoon I also had excruciating pain in my leg.
And this morning my fever was almost completely gone, but my gums were bleeding a little bit. That could very well be from my new mouthguard, but it’s also a symptom of dengue.
However, my throat has been really sore, and so far, it’s been getting increasingly worse. We also have strep throat in mind.
